combi boiler

So I have a combi boiler which is operated by electric obviously with a gas flame.

At present I have it switched on, down as 'summer' with both heating and water at 1 and the temp gauge is at 60'c.

I only need hot water for a bath in the mornings and to clean the pots in the evening, should I leave the boiler on or turn it off when not needed?

It depends how your combi works. Some combis heat the water direct from the mains water supply so in theory it would not burn any gas until you turned a tap on.

Other combis have a little tank in them and they keep this tank of water hot so when you turn the tap on you get in theory instant hot water it also has the benefit of increasing the flow rate which is handy for bath filling and showers.

Mine is the later and it will burn 0.3m3 of gas over a 24 hour period just keeping the internal tank hot (about 12p per day on an average rate).

If you do not know what type yours is then read the gas before you go to bed and read in the morning before anybody has drawn hot water and that should tell you.

Will I've have turned it off on the boiler and at the wall, the flame still seems to be there, is that a good thing? I will just turn it on for a short time in the mornings and evenings.
