Fed up with Nationwide - can I claim?

 I was overdrawn with Nationwide (not a huge amount, less than £100) and was charged £20.99 for being overdrawn. I paid this and cleared my account back to zero. But because the OD ran into the next month before I cleared it to zero and paid the fee, another fee was applied the following month. They wrote to tell me this, but I stupidly didnt open the envelope because I (yes, stupid again!) presumed it was telling me I was at zero and all was fine.
This then put me overdrawn again by the £20.99 fee, and I have now had another letter saying I owe another £20.99 because the last £20.99 they applied put me overdrawn, i.e. a total of £41.98 in fees because their fees put me overdrawn.
Im so angry, firstly with myself at not opening the envelope, and secondly that they can charge fees on top of their fees for me being a few pounds overdrawn when clearly attempting to right the situation.
I have spoken to them on the phone and they are refusing to refund. Is it worth writing to try to argue this:rolleyes:, or is this just a hard lesson learned?!

Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T

NW really are taking the P&ss with many of its loyal longstanding customers. They recently stung me for an unpaid check due to a slight miss timing of payments. They conveniently ignored the fact that ive been with them for decades and have other monies with them. I emailed-no joy,i wrote-more blind indifference. Now i do my best to punish them. I've moved all my money elsewhere and i just use their facilities rather than give them anything to make a profit on.0

LOL - Good for you Pssst! Although I cant say I have been so badly treated since I was OD for so long, but they never charged me anything for the very small OD that I had for nearly a year, then suddenly I've ended up with charges of about £100 on a less than £100 OD - I cant see how that is justifiable or relative to the size of the OD. Needless to say I shall be closing the account the moment it is exactly cleared, although I have no idea when that will be as despite putting it back to zero yesterday, I have been told to check the 2nd July statement in case i have incurred any further charges for being OD in June. It is a cycle I dont seem to be able to get out of..I clear the account, but am charged a month later - madness! Ah well. Thanks for all comments.Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T0
