How to open programme after reinstallation

hi, i had some software on my pc,they were basically guides and i had an option of a book or cd so,i chose the cd route.after installing it you had to call the co. and ask for a keycode.and if you wanted to use on another pc you would need the keycode again.fine,for a no of years.then i had a bad virus and had to perform a complete reinstallation.obviously, i've lost a bit of stuff including the guides. i transferred them before reinst, and i still have the cd roms.but they won't open as i dont have the keycode and original co have gone!
anybody have any advice? is it poss or is it a waste of time?
any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Unfortunately if you have now lost the activation required key, the company is unlikely to give you another key.

I would second that. Whenever you get any software like this is it always advisable to copy the software to folder on your PC as a backup and then create yourself a small text file containing the Key/Serial. Has saved my bacon many times

It's unusual to have to call for the key code, maybe they emailed a copy as well...?
