Wooden upstands?

I am still in the process of getting the kitchen ready for plastering and then fitting. I already have the kitchen and it has solid walnut worktops. (40mm).
An electrician friend told me to plan my sockets at the correct height as this will save cutting tiles etc. at a later date.
Bear with me.......
If kitchen is fitted at standard 870mm height and allowing for 90mm worktop this gives total height of 910mm. Height to window cill is 970mm. It looks like i am not going to be able to fit tiles under here so now looking at wooden upstands. I have seen some at 40mm but prefering the 80mm heights. Now i know this won't fit but could easily be shaped around the window to fit.
My questions are: Can i lower the kitchen height as i don't intend to move and nobody is 6'? How low can i go to get a washing machine under there?
If i go with the upstands, would you still tile above these in certain places? (so i can work out socket heights)?
Any other suggestions or options welcome.

Cut the upstands down? Cut tiles?
Of course you can tile a 70mm difference, you just cut the tiles. Mine has only about 20mm difference and it's tiled.
You can have upstands made to measure, otherwise you can cut a taller one down. If you employ a professional to do it you'll get a much better finish if you're concerned about your own abilities especially.
Much of the perceived value of a kitchen is in the quality of it's fitting.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Nice to know theres a smaller gap than mine out there. I have replaced window and added a course of bricks to bring up the level as it was way too low (old house).
I thought the wood upstand might look good, now i will have to consider tiles again0 -
It seems to be a hell of a lot more work to reduce the height of the units than to cut a few tiles to fit the existing gap. It is not difficult to cut tiles to size. Indeed it is an essential skill required by anyone who does tiling. The chance of planning the sockets so as to not have to cut tiles, is pretty remote I would have thought from my experienceI can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I think i will just get the sockets chased in if its not that critical then worry about tiling or upstands when kitchen is fitted.
Must admit, now swinging more towards the upstands with maybe some tiles scattered around.
Should i still aim at 870 datum line or could i get away with lower. Been looking at washing machines as this is going to be the only thing that needs to fit under and they all seem much lower?0
