I have bought one of those electricty monitors and was wondering how my useage compares with all of you guys?
4 bed semi, 2 adults, 2 children. Gas for cooking and heating, everything else electric.
When i first got the meter - was using an average of 12 units per day. Now using around 6-7 units per day.

I'd say that was bloody good - we've just had our bill through and ours is about 16 units per day for a 3 bed detached, with 2 adults and one toddler!!
Everything except heating and hot water (oil based) are on electric.
We used to use the tumble dryer quite a bit, but don't use that hardly at all now.
I'd be interested to see what replies you get!0 -
With two children six units per day is very good going. I strongly suspect it is not just on this forum that you are known as 'grumpy old man'.0

If that is the case on the other forum he is a lot grumpier.0

I would say that is good.
For two adults one home most of the time, in 3 bed house we use between 2.6-4.00 units a day not sure of average figures are at home.
Depends if I have been using the washing machine or not.
I do have a owl (don't use it)and one of the plug in the appliance type meters but I now take a meter reading everyday now.

Thanks for your your responses - I must admit I have become like my father and can be found wandering round the house muttering "turn those lights off"!:D
It is amazing how much it all adds up though and by not leaving things plugged in/on standby it's amazing how much you can save.
Before I had the OWL monitor, I used to leave our PC's on all day and night - and by turning them off - this is how I saved quite a bit of money. The other thing that came as a suprise was how much fridges and freezers use. They use very little but as they are on 24/7 it all adds up over the course of a day. Hmmmn. . . .0 -
for electric we average 45 kwh per week, around 7kwh per day.
2 adults, 3 bed detatched.
the missus works days, and i work shifts.
we have gas ch for heating and water, and a gas hob for cooking.0 -

That is why you should have a freezer/fridge thermometer to make sure it is not to cold.
I had my chest freezer dial almost half way. Checked it and it was nearly off the scale. Kept cutting it back and back until it is now a quarter of turn and the freezer is still freezing and with in the correct range.
Same with the fridge. Check to make sure it is not to high. Also that it is not near a cooker or getting direct sunlight on it. Means it has to work harder.
