Edinburgh Tourism

I'm thinking of going to Edinburgh for a day or two soon and want to make the most of the time that I have there. To do this I'm thinking of buying a tourist book but don't know which one is the best. I will be going with my family so I need things to do for both myself and my six year old son. I've had a little look on some Scottish tourist sites which mention the day pass that offers free travel and entry to many attractions but I don't know if is worth the money. I would be grateful for any ideas and tips to plan the perfect day out. Thanks. :j

Spent 3 days in edinburgh last week-Best city weve been too in a long time.
There are loads of things to do for you and the kids like the castle, diverse earth, and the toy museum (which is free).
Best thing to do is catch a tourist bus(about £8 for 24hr ticket)at waverley station and they will take you around showing you where everything is with amusing commentary.
when youve finished the first lap just stay on the bus and ride to which attraction you decide to see first and then hop on and hop off all day. They run every 10 mins and if you buy aticket at 12 on day 1 its valid until 12 on day 2.
I'm sure youll have a great time
    cheers...

The Edinburgh City pass is pretty good - ok I dont think you can use it on the open top tour buses but it allows you free public transport for the duration of you ticket plus the deals on the attractions. A tip here is to figure out just how many of these attractions you can do in any one day. Get a map and figure out your route.
