insurance advice

hi all,
im at the moment a learner driver, who intends to be passed in the next month or two,
however, with the car scrappage scheme im wanting to scrap my currently SORN nissan micra and get a new car (looking at toyota iq or hyundai i10) and basically im thinking of getting it insured for 1month on the provisional insurance quotes (about £78)
this aside after that i should be on the road driving and need some insurance, but seemingly my quotes are all upward of £800, however i do intend to take the pass plus and that should drop my premium right?
im 23 years old, but of course will be newly passed.
ive used all of the comparison websites, but what is a realistic figure i could get through haggling and so forth? any good advice for a newly passed driver as i will be?
cheers.

Pass plus will lower premiums for sum insurers, but not others. It is generaly considered no substitute for experience. Check carefuly the impact it will make before shelling out for the lessons. Of course, you may like to do it to boost your confidence anyway.
£800 sounds a good price for your age and inexperience, especialy if you are male, and still reasonable if female. The cars you are looking at are low insurance group vehicles so this is to your advantage, as is the fact you are over 21.
The best advice would be drive carefuly for the next 12 months and build up your no claims bonus! They only advice I think I could give would be to keep following the rules and be defensive - watch for people who could cause you trouble on the road and avoid them! Also, PLEASE don't block yellow boxes and DON'T sit in the middle lane - there are enough of those people about already!
I would say that taking out a months cover and then canceling it is likely to incurr a cancelation charge and you won't get a full refund in premium. Better find an insurer who offers you a best price on you once you have passed, take the policy now and let them know when you have passed. You will then have to pay the additional premium.0 -
should add, you will probably also have to pay a charge for the mid term adjustment when you tell them you have passed. Call and ask about this before you take the policy out, in particular see if they might be willing to waive it.0
