Ryanair latest scam

First thread, so I may be on wrong forum. Anyone got any info on Ryanair scam of charging £5 per bag? Wasn't in their terms when I booked a few weeks ago, but now it is. Anyone challenged it? Should I be on another thread? If so please advise.I am flying out Monday 3 A pril

Hi - their website details this under "online checkin".Looks as if from 03/06 they have increased the hand baggage allowance but charge for bags outside the limits.

There has been alot about this in the press lately, flyBe introduced it also a little while ago. I think that the hand baggage allowances has been increased so it might be worth checking what is allowable in the cabin to reduce the amount of hold baggage you will need to pack. (Also remember there is a 32kg upper limit on each individual bag for the hold on most carriers)

It is obviously going to be a big money-spinner for the ski routes etc for them, but how many customers will it cost them i wonder?!

Not a scam, just a choice - everyone wants flights for tuppence-halfpenny (approx 1p), Ryanair, Easyjet etc have dramatically reduced the cost of air travel but still we have whinges. If you don't agree with the the T&Cs, try another arline.

Yes but the T&C's the OP looked at when booking said there was no charge, now there is.....

less weight = less fuel = cheaper flights = more customers ...... not a scam just clever thinking, at the end of the day you could have booked with a more expensive air line that doesnt charge for baggage or choose the cheap one and pay for baggage.

I think this has been widely publisised to be honest.

I believe that any bookings prior to the change (16th March) are exempt. It's discussed in the other thread pointed out by Grumbler.

Both Ryanair and Flybe have increased their cabin allowances to encourage people not to use hold luggage. The airlines have to pay quite a large sum to baggage handlers for hold luggage which is where they are hoping to make savings.
My worry here though is safety. There never seems to be enough stowage in the lockers for carry on bags as it is, so will there be a lot of luggage under peoples seats? If so, good luck should you need to evacuate in a hurry!

I booked on the 15th so JUST got in under the old rules... however doesn't bother me one way or another but uhmmmm 20kg is a lot of weight and SPACE per person... If I dont' want to pay to have it in the hold then where are they going to place it in the cabin? Or did I miss something in the T & Cs about the size of the baggage allowed in the cabin? (Probably I can never be arsed with reading it all... :rotfl:)

The dimensions of cabin luggage remain the same, it is the weight allowed that has increased.

I have just booked and flown with FlyBe and was quite happy about it, cost me £2 per piece of hold luggage and the weight allowance of this was a whopping 25k, plus a 10kg cabin allowance which is free. If you book your baggage when you book your flight it is cheaper than paying at the airport.
