May be a daft question but - does it matter whether a thermostatic radiator valve is on the in or the out pipe?

Good afternoon: If the TRV has a bi-directional valve body it can go on the flow or return. Here is a pricier example .
Cheaper alternatives are available.;)

Thanks, Canucklehead. Is there any way of telling if the one we have is bi-directional? We've had it for a while and don't have the packaging. We're putting in a drain-off valve and the end of the radiator nearest the door is the end where the TRV previously was. Maybe I need to spend out on a new valve to be certain it is bi-directional.0
