Disturbance Allowance Help Please

Hi there,

We have been given a transfer of MQ due to me being pg (therefore an extra bedroom required) and was wondering about entitlement to DA. We are moving about 5 miles down the road to a different patch (same unit though) - are we entitled to full DA? Is the child element just for school age children or is it for all children? Is there such a thing as lower rate DA anymore?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I am no expert but we moved quarters for the same reason last year and received full DA. As far as I am aware, this is normal for such circumstances but I am sure someone more "in the know" will come along later with a difinitive answer.

I also think that the childcare element is only for school age children to cover uniform expenses and the like.

    HI,

You will be entitled to full DA as its a change in entitlement so you are allowed to claim the full amount.

The child element is only claimable for school age children that are moving schools and require a different uniform than the one that they use now.

Personnel are normally entitled to DA when a mid-assignment move is due to a change in size of their immediate family leading to a change in quarter entitlement. There is an expectation that the new house will be occupied for at least six months. DA rates are based on the average expenditure for each type of accommodation being moved into, so if you are moving into SFA you should receive that rate. And as the other respondents have stated, the child element is intended to cover expenses incurred by moving schools.
