  • Not sure how much a taxi would be but its a ten to fifteen minute ride to the racecourse. If you want to use public transport then it is a pain..........

Take the METRO to Regent Centre (Airport Line) and then get one of the following buses to Newcastle Racecourse; 42a, 42b, 43b, 44, 45, X1

From Haymarket Bus Station in Newcastle the 43a, 43b and the 414 buses run approximately every 10 minutes from stand R to Newcastle Racecourse.

On racedays a FREE Hopper bus service runs between the Regent Centre and Four Lane Ends Metro Stations to Newcastle Racecourse. This service commences 1½ hours before the first race and runs for 1 hour after the last.

Local Travel Information can be obtained from Travel Line on 0870 6082608.

    Enjoy the TOON !
Am i here to save money or spend money......hmmmmm
  • You could try phoning the Hilton and ask them if they can put your bags in their bag store when you hit Newcastle as you're going to the races and will check in later. Worth a try.

The Hilton is in Gateshead not Newcastle.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

All the same to those down south :D

They used to have a shuttle bus service to all the big events. Your best bet (pardon the pun ;) ) is to phone them in advance and they will give you all the details you need.

    Have a great weekend!

Another option is to jump on the Metro, get off at Four Lane Ends, and special "Racecourse Buses" will take you direct to the turnstiles at Gosforth Park (Newcastle Races).

There is lots of information on the Newcastle Racecourse Website, including a Beginners Guide which is helpful if you've never been racing before.

Newcastle is a great track. My OH is a Geordie, and we've been a couple of times.

Basically, there are three 'enclosures' where the public can go:

Members/Club Enclosure - This is the most expensive area but has the best facilities. You can buy a 'Day Members' Badge (about £18 most places). Here you have access to all other public areas (Tattersalls and the Silver Ring) if desired, but IMO the best feature is that you have viewing over the winning line. Members is said to have the best bars, restaurants etc, and is often less crowded, although not on busy 'festival' days! There is usually a dress code in the Members Enclosure.

Tattersalls/Grandstand & paddock Enclosure - this is the middle enclosure. Here you are further away from the winning line, and can't access any of the facilities in the Members Enclosure. There are bars and eateries, although not as great as Members. This where all the bookies are, so even if you bought Members Badges, you'd still need toventure to Tatts to place a bet. The paddock and winners encosure is normally in Tattersalls Enclosure.

Silver Ring - normally about a fiver to get in here. No great views, no access to paddock or grandstands (usually). Good value for families, but not so great for a 30th B'day surprise!

HTH - have a great time!

    That's right.
Gateshead, Newcastle, Birtley, Grantham, Peterborough....all Geordies to us;)

Mind you, when I was 15 we went on a school field trip to Billingham (don't ask why) and got "Cocknays go home (sic)" graffitied on our minibus. So it works both ways.
    Can I help?

The trouble with not using punctuation is that "fingers crossed hell enjoy the surprise" reads differently to "Fingers crossed, he'll enjoy the surprise." :)
I know some people have a dark opinion of Newcastle but it's not that bad ;)
Take care and have a good trip! My wife's a Geordie; they're nice ;)
    Can I help?
