Most new monitors have DVI input, looks a bit like the HDMI connection on a digi TV.
You can buy an adapter/converter to connect to the older style sockets.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Yoy should have no problems --I use an LCD spare monitor when I get laptops etc in for a service -- Standard 15 Pin VGA cable --dave {It also has other sockets on the monitor as well ]0

The laptop's graphics chip may struggle with two monitors. How old is the notebook?
Be sure to get a monitor with a VGA input.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0 -
it really depends on the monitor...some have dsub (vga) inputs, some dvi, some both, some come with 1 or no cables...you'll have to check

vga-dvi adapters are cheap enough - couple of quid or so

I got a new Monitor and its ok with notebook.
I can switch off the screen on notebook and just have the monitor as screen and all seems ok.0 -
New monitors will have more than one input connector. They will normally be VGA (Blue) or DVI (White) but in most cases they will have both. Have a look at the back of your laptop and see what colour the output is. Then you can buy a monitor with a corresponding input.0
