Home Insurance Technical Query

Im planning on buying my first house, and have found out that I can avoid rates for a few months (approx £100 per month where I live) if I dont move furniture in and dont move in (I will stay at home until I save up for furniture etc).

So what I am proposing / asking is, will insurers still insure me, if I dont live in the house, and maybe sleep in it a couple of nights a week (so it isnt constantly empty)? I'd be interested in doing this for, say the max of 1 year.

Hope that all made sense,
Stevey

But that also means it wont be emtpy for council tax purposes either so you should pay them saving you no money.

When you say rates, I assume you mean Council tax? If so then don't forget an empty property only saves you 50%. You still have to pay the other 50%. Also, if you're single you get a 25% reduction off the full rate anyway.

It sounds to me like you'll be living alone. So basically you'd only save 25% anyway. Factor in the additional insurance per month and any "board" you have to pay your parents then you might as well just live in it.
