Our previous tennants switched over supplier from ours 'Powergen' to Npower early last year, i only found this out 1year later when they moved out. As i remember in the past being a tenant myself i had to get permission from my LLord in order to change supplier in the property. Has the law changed since then, anyone knows? I have written to Npower about this but I am still waiting for their reply.
Cheers.

Unless it is is the tenancy agreement their not allowed to change for a valid reason then no they can have who ever they like supply them.

    Thanks Vestra
i just had a browse on our tennancy contract and yes it does specify

'tenants shall not change the supplier of the utilities, if in breach of this clause the tenants will be responsable and liable for all transfer and re-connection costs at the option of the LLORD on an indemnity basis'

I'm just wanting for a reply from our agent also

There are normally no costs associated with changing supplier.

I would of thought that it is dodgy legal ground to prevent a tennant from changing suppliers in a free market.
