They take into account
a. salary
b. total outstanding debt
c. total available credit
So if b is a high % of a and / or c then your likely to get a low credit limit.
This is not usually true. Most issuers would be concerned at lending more money to someone who had the ability to get into a large amount of debt very quickly.
I would leave C out of your equation as it depends on what type of person the issuer is marketing to and what kind of risk management they will have for each card.
If you are getting rejected and/or getting low limits just try to keep 3 or maximum 4 balance transfers running at the same time.
These offers are still going to be around in at least a years time so be thinking in that timescale and who you will be applying to in a years time.Val0 -
they are a weird bank
Yes they are, but do you think I got rejected for the credit card because I recently applied for the graduate card?Olympic 2007 challenge Started 9 Jan 2007[strike]Aim Silver 2007.00[/strike] Aim Gold 3007.00 Achieved so far:782

EDIT: Here is how one company works out credit scores. Don't read too much into it though as every company scores differently.0 -
They do seem to be a law unto themselves when it comes to rejections. Hubby has just been rejected, for no apparent reason. We have just obtained our credit files from both Experian and Equifax, as we do every six months after finding this site, and there is nothing untoward on there.
We both have Texaco cards, which I believe are operated by Lloyds TSB. Could this have anything to do with it.0 -
Credit card companies do not like customers who are close to being "maxed out" on their credit cards.
Some do and some dont it solely depends upon their risk management and how customers are being targetted this changes constantly and I would say it was misleading to attempt to lay down any hard and fast rules.
The best example was a post on here a few weeks ago from someone who had been rejected by Capital One and then a few weeks later Capital One wrote to them and said thet had changed their minds

Reaper - thanks for that but again it makes no sense why i didnt get a good score. I tick all the boxes, have spare credit, always pay, with bank long time.
Lloyds TSb just seem to have different rules.0
