Might be old age, but I am sure that one of the options on the Canon N670U is to create a pdf file from the source document. However I cannot for the life of me find the option. I've tried a reinstall, but no joy there! The instruction bool is no help

Am I getting senile:eek:, or does someone know what I need do to scan the source documents in to pdf format?

I might be wrong but from memory I don't believe it comes with this capability. You will need a package like Adobe Acrobat to import a document frm a scanner I believe.

I meant that the scan would be saved as a pdf

I have this scanner, and it does not come with a pdf option built in.

However if you install a free pdf printer (like Primo Pdf) onto your PC you can use one of the programmable buttons on the scanner interface to print to this printer, which will then act like the 'scan to pdf' facility you need

Or, if like me you are happy for the pdf printer to be your default printer, then simply press the 'copy' button and it will automatically fire up the pdf printer

You can change the settings via CanoScan Toolbox. Press a button and it should pop up.

Hi, sorry for the delay in responding:

    in the Canon ScanGear toolbox:

    1. click the 'settings' icon (looks like a gearwheel with a red tick)
    2. click one of the 'custom' tabs
    3. tick 'show this button on the tolbar'
    4. click 'set' and browse to the location of your pdf printer .exe file (for me this is "C:\Program Files\ActivePDF\PrimoPDF\PrimoPDF.exe" but might be slightly different for you)
    5. click 'Open'
    6. set your required resolution etc at the bottom of the open window
    7. click 'ok'
    8. All Done

    Hope this helps
  • Hi there,

I have the same scanner and you don't need to bother with setting up a programmable buttons with a PDF printer as this scanner can natively scan to PDF.

If you go to http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=351&modelid=6625 you can download the newest version of the CanoScan Toolbox and relevant drivers and you will have the scan to PDF functionality. The option is under the button "File".

What is even more cool, is that there is also an option to have a dual-layer scan of your documents so that there is text recognition (OCR) of words in the scanned document along with a "picture" of the document itself. You can then search for words in your scanned PDFs using programs such as Google Desktop/Copernic.

    Thanks all :)
I'll have a play soon: for next week I'm on granddad duties, so little time.
