What's the normal life cycle of a laptop battery any idea?

Most laptops have a warranty of a year but the batteries eg IBM are for 6 months as there are so many variables to be considered. Years ago the way to "refresh" a phone/laptop battery was to attach a car head light bulb to the battery to drain it down to zero then to fully charge it up again as some batteries ended up having a "memory effect" but with the newer batteries I don't think this would work but you could give it a go.0

Seems like I'm a bit unlucky then, because that's how we use ours but like I said it now refused to hold a charge for longer than a max of 40 mins! Perhaps HP batteries are not as good as Dell's?!

I guess it also depends on the usage, if I push the laptop hard, use the CD etc, then 45 mins might well be the max, but on average when running on batteries, working on databases and spreadsheets, I get around 90 mins.
Do you have wifi and is it enabled? Disable it and Bluetooth to save a bit more power, also I do tend to use laptops with the brightness quite low too...0
