House insurance and boiler cover

I have a friend who has told me that they took out home insurance which included boiler breakdown and accidental damage cover.
I did not believe him or at least not believe he would not have been charged a huge premium. Unfortunately I could not get out of him what he was paying or with which company he was with.
So can you get joint home insurance and boiler cover?

Some policies such as Tesco Finest include Home Emergency cover - "Cover for central heating or boiler failure, plumbing blockages or leakage, gas or electrical failure.".

With most others you can add some kind of Home Emergency Cover to your cover, usually at about £50 or so.

However I think they assume that the boiler etc are under a certain age and it is not a substitute for normal maintenance.
