Clydesdale Bank refusing to comply with SAR

Options
Hi, I'm a newbie on here and hoped that somebody might be able to help me out.

I sent a SAR to the Clydesdale Bank using the template provided on the sticky on the board. The information I am looking for relates to a loan that was paid off in 2006.

The problem is I cannot find a copy of the loan account number, although I did provide my current account number from which the loan was paid.

They have sent me the following letter, can anybody advise on my next steps please??

"Dear Mr .....

DATA PROTECTION ACT 1998

We refer to your recent letter requesting information held by the bank under the terms of the Data Protection Act.

Section 7, Subsection 3 of the act states that a Data Controller is not obliged to comply with any request under the Act unless supplied with such information thay may reasonably require in order to satisfy themselves as to the identity of the person making the request and to locate the information which that person seeks, therefore all personal loan and credit card account numbers held or previously held must be provided to Clydesdale Bank PLC.

To enable us to proceed please resubmit your request quoting any relevant account numbers.

Yours Sincerely

................"

I had assumed that by giving my current account number they would be able to access other associated accounts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there

Did you send them the SAR template from the site on here?

If your having problems with these you can tell them you will contact the ICO for advice. and if you have also enclosed the payment of £10 postal order or cheque payment, they should return your payment back to you also.

Did they return your payment as well?

You can try contacting the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) who may contact them on your behalf, so it may be worth ringing the ICO.
    https://www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx

Good luck and please post up for help when needed, and keep us posted.

Just to add, if you did enclose your account number then that should be fine, they may be stalling this or trying to get out of it, not sure but I would definately write to them and make them aware you already enclosed the account number, and maybe give them more details as well such as your date of birth, and any change of surname if it were different at the time you taken this out and any different address etc.
These should be relevent for them to track this down.

I see, so it will have to start at 40 days again then.

They should hold details for 6 years in England and Wales, Scotland is 5 years, not too sure about anywhere else, so they should be able to supply something in relation to your account, good luck.;)

  • If you get a cope of your credit file (experian do a 30 day free trail) then this will give you all your current and previous credit agreements for last 6 years. This will tell the the company and any account numbers.
