Divorce questions before it costs me a fortune!

Short story but applied for divorce 6 years ago and was granted a decree nisi. During the 6 weeks before the absolute could be applied for I had a one night stand with my soon to be ex husband. Fell pregnant.
We decided to wait until baby was born before we applied for the absolute. We never reconciled and never lived together after separation.
I moved away and stupidly never did apply for the decree absolute - neither did ex H. We have very little to do with each other now, child contact is sporadic at best. I have had a new partner for a few years and he recently popped the question.
My old solicitor closed my case a while ago when he retired. However, now obviously I need to finish this divorce.
A few questions:
Do I need to restart the whole divorce process?
Could I just apply for the decree absolute with a covering affidavit to support my case?
My Son was not included in the original divorce proceedings but our other child was - the child maintenance and contact has remained the same since we split.
Do the courts hold copies of the marriage certificate, as I never had mine returned.
Do they keep evidence of previous case?
Thanks.
(Yes, I should have done it years ago but life crept up on me too quickly!)

Hi!
Didn't want to read and run, and I'm sure someone with some more definate advice will be reading and replying soon. Just wondered if your new partner knows you're not yet divorced?, especially as he's now popped the question.
Do you know ex OH's whereabouts to get in contact?
How about a freebie 1/2 with another solicitor, now your last one has retired?LHS No 2220 -

Sort of - but the court will want to know the arrangements for the son concieved after nisi, so it won't be striaghtforward, but provided you both agree then it shouldn't be too difficult.
Try www.ondivorce.co.uk for helpMama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0
