Online conveyancing - Just exchanged

Ok, so ages ago I was selling my house and finally today we have exchanged.
I found my solicitors via a thread on this website for http://www.cheapcheapconveyancing.co.uk/.
I said at the time I would report back on my experience so here it is.
The first solicitor I was referred to was totally rubbish. Sounded like a small one man band working from home. Totally failed to even send me the initial letter. I eventually sacked him. Ironically he was so disorganised he rang me about 4 weeks later asking where my forms were!?!?!
The 2nd solicitors I was referred to were in Wakefield. A lot further than where I live but that didn't bother me.
They were much more efficient initially but then their momentum just seemed to just peeter out. Spent a lot of time chasing them and towards the end, they did pull their finger out. Just the middle bit where they just seemed to be on a go-slow.
I guess the only way these companies can do it so cheap is to increase their volume. So they prob. have many more cases than a normal firm. That could explain why the middle bit is slow. Quick at the beginning to win the business, active at the end to get their money. Middle bit, no incentive to deal with you really!
So would I use an online firm again? If I were in a mad rush to sell/buy then "no". If there's no particular rush and you want to save some pennies then absolutely. I'd prefer a firm closer next time, so I can drive round to shove a rocket up them if necessary.
Hope that helps someone
