Credit Card nightmare

Hi,

I currently have a Breathe credit card with barclays, it is an eco/green card and I do not receive any monthly statements, payment slips or even minimum payments.
In the past i have requested these and have received them but now they are saying that it is an online credit card and I must find the information online.
I don't do online banking and therefore struggle to find out where i am up to.
I asked them (Barclaycard) to change my account to a "normal" card where I get a monthly statement, payslip etc.
When I was given the card (as part of a balance transfer) it was never explained to me that I would not receive a monthly statement etc. Additionally nothing was ever explained about the higher cost in interest if i spent on it, no matter how small the spend, it is only through this website that I have learned that.

To be fair, Barclays do make it pretty clear that it is designed to be eco-friendly, so everything is online and no paper statements. Apparently the card is eco-friendly as well!

Their online system is easy to use. What is your objection to doing it?

  • Not in this case i'm afraid, it was pretty much in and out , there you go. And yes, I know I should read the small print and if I did we would not be having this conversation.

Not much you can do if you can't/won't use internet banking. This certainly isn't the right card for you if you want paper statements. I'd suggest trying to get another card and cancelling this one.
Though make sure you do your research before applying for another card so you know it matches your needs ;)
  • Tried to get them to change me to another card but they won't. I can guarantee though that as soon as I manage to sort this I will cease all banking with barclays. i was with lloyds TSB and thought the grass was greener etc. Do you think they would welcome me back?

You are able to post here, that means you can operate a computer. Checking your statements on line
(and possibly printing them out) is not more difficult. I can't see why you cannot do that.

Then pay the account off, close it and open another CC elsewhere.

    Hi

I have to say, I have never heard of this Credit Card until I have just read your message.
I find it rather odd that Barclays would not make it clear regarding their card useage, the interest rate must be pretty high, albeit you didn't state what it was. Is this card designed to help strengthen your credit rating? If so, this would be the reason why you could not move to another card, if your credit is Ok, then perhaps opening a new account card with a new lender, and moving the balance onto it at 0% for a period of time, and getting rid of the Barclays Card, may just be the answer. If not, then calculate your balance, and aim to pay it off in a set time, ie if you owe £500, and you wanted to clear it in 6mths, you could pay £84 per month, but allow of course for interest, so you would need to find what interest you pay montly, and add this on too.
Also, do find it a bit odd you have to do your own research into what you owe etc, surely there is a number on the card that you can ring for up-to-date balances etc, never heard of any card company that does not promote statements, how odd. Get shut of this card and go to someone else that deserves your custom.

Gazelle - why don't you read this webpage? As I already said to the OP, I think Barclays make it pretty clear on their website what this particular card is for - that is an environmentally friendly card with a reasonable APR.

The OP may have a perfectly legitimate reason for not wanting to bank online and therefore it should be respected. i.e. may not feel comfortable.

However, I do agree the card isn't the right type and an alternative should be found asap.
