HI all,
My back UPVC door is stuck shut, the handle works fine but and when i "open" the door the top part moves yet the bottom parts is still locked. I have felt something give way in side the door but as i cannot open it i am assuming that its the dead lock. When i trurn the keys its as if the door has dropped down or up and will not locate, i have tried playing aruond with the ajuster on the hinge but nothing worked.
Do i have to repalce the door? anyone else had this problem?
Thanks
Dunc

What sort of lock is it? Do you mean a 3-point locking system? If so it sounds like the rod controlling the lower point has failed and won't unlock. If the door is not locked shut then it's accessible and it should be possible to repair it.
Have you tried unlocking it from both sides of the door?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Yes i think its that, i am not 100%, The door is locked shut it will not open, it only moves slighty at the top.....0

Then the problem will be getting it open to do the repair. A locksmith or DIY man can advise you.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Yeah it sounds very much like the gearbox or door strip has failed, The good news is you DONT need a new door but they are tricky to open. and I would suggest a uPVC repairing company or a locksmith if you try and force it you may do more damage.
If you need a reccomendation let me know I'll try and help out.0 -
if you could that would be great, do you have an idea of cost?0

Depending on what make/model and what has gone your looking at £80-£200 all in.
Where abouts in the country are you? I will pm you some numbers.0
