Just take them all off her and put them high up in a kitchen cupboard. Every time she appears with one, just take it off her.

they get used to not having them very quickly.

If you are happy for her to have it in bed, then fine. But get it back off her in the morning and stash it.

We posted ours to Mr Tumble....

It was very sudden for her, I took them off her in the morning telling her that she was a big girl now and that if she gave them to Mr Tumble, he would be very happy. I threw all barr one in the bin (that one was put on a high shelf so she couldn't see it, just in case it all went wrong!) and TBH that night was okay, it took a little longer than usual for her to settle (not too bad).

The following morning she asked and I said that Mr Tumble had them now, tough. Short and to the point. Never had a peep out of her that evening onwards.

or how about a trip to the dentist? my two nieces would not get rid of theirs, but a quick phone call to the dentist's receptionist before our appointment and they happily played along with the "if you are a big girl and want nice teeth" etc sort of story, both girls listened to the dentist, put the dummies in the dentists bin....no problems after as they were big girls now who didn't need them!!

Feel a bit cruel now ....from what I can remember, picked our moments and stopped them in the daytime first. Probably used the "You're a big girl now, only babies have dummies line". Threw them all away except one, which was kept under the pillow.

Knocking off the night one, it was a case of 'cold turkey'! When we'd decided on the 'cold turkey' approach, made sure the dummy was thrown away, so we couldn't weaken!

Fortunately, neither offspring, now both in their twenties, appears to have suffered any lasting psychological or emotional damage.

    Phew!

I would say that if you're going to stop her having the dummy then you need to get rid of them, otherwise if you know where they are then it's too tempting for you to fetch them and give them back to her if she kicks off. Both of mine were reliant on the dummy to go to sleep and I never thought they'd kick the habit, but they did, and with no problems. DD gave hers to Father Christmas on the plate with the mince pies, and as I was pregnant at the time she was happy that it was going to go to the new baby who was due at the end of January. Except when she woke up on Christmas morning I'd gone into hospital to have him - he arrived on Boxing day! So in all the exitement she never even missed her dummy.

As for DS, we just told him he wasn't having it any more, he had a bit of a moan, but never asked for it after that!!!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I wouldnt worry about her speech, my DD is 5 1/2, instead of "the" it sounds like "V" (phonic sounding), but when saying dora the explorer she pronouces "the" correctly. Also clock sounds like c**k (eek!).

All my 3 kids had dummys and we went cold turkey, got rid of the lot in one go and coped, it's never as bad as you think its going to be.

I think the 'you can only have it in bed' line is a good place to start (and if she wants a suck during the day she has to go to bed - then come back to play etc when she's finished.

What I heard someone did which I thought was good was they got all the child's dummies and took them to build a bear, let the child pick a toy and then made the elephant with the dummies inside - when he felt like he wanted his dummy he cuddled his toy (with a dummy in each limb so he could feel them)

Im having the same problem at the mo with my 3 year old, thing is though he's got a new baby sister so am thinking even if i throw his away he might pinch his sisters!! I wouldnt worry about the speech it sounds how my boy sounds and the health visitor last time commented on how well his speech was so I would say its normal for their age. for example my boy pronounces orange as 'wonange' ha its quite funny but if I pronounce it as wonange he tells me Im saying it wrong!!
