Kitchen

Options
Had a few quotes for a new kitchen - usual suspects B&Q, Wicks couple of other local ones (North West).

Had a visit today from a company just called 'Kitchens' (also known as Dicount Kitchen Direct) - they are based in Oldham.

They basically blew all the other quotes away (around 70% of the previous lowest).

Has anybody had any experience of this company - if so I would appreciate hearing the story - good or bad.

Thanks for any help.

Mick.

Not looking good - the reviews 've read are not good so probably give it a miss.

Saying that though they are doing a LARGE number of sales so you could say percentage wise these complaints are minimal.

    I'm looking into another site.

https://www.selffit.co.uk - they are local to myself and I'm arranging visiting the site were they get their goods from to take a look at the quality etc (Preston).

Anybody had any dealings with these?

If I go ahead, I'll report back with a summary of whats good and whats not with their service.

    Mick.
  • Sorry to be the bearer of bad news about the original company. Hope the new one has what you want :D

    JS Other Half,

No problem, I'd rather know now rather after I've parted with the cash.

Anyway went to a local firm today who gave me a decent quote, not as good as Kitchens Direct but at least there local if theres any issues and they do 'seem' a decent company.

    Mick,
  • There was something on the TV the other night about how cheap it was to import quality kitchens from France....... Anyone help out on a lead on this?? It was much cheaper.

We have an Ikea kitchen which has been great - my husband fitted it 3.5 years ago and we've had no problems. He says they are better if you glue and screw the carcasses together. I found that by putting our own worksurfaces on and sourcing my own handles etc you can make it less like an 'Ikea' kitchen if you wish. For example we bought 5cm thick maple worksurfaces which look better than the Ikea wooden surfaces (we think anyway) and we bought our own handles. We also bought a Franke sink (rather than an Ikea one) and our own taps etc. We also had our own kick boards made up as we liked them better than the Ikea ones. You can mix and match ittings to get your own look, rather than buying everything from one supplier. You could also buy the carcasses and get a company to make up doors if you liked and then it wouldn't matter where you bought the kitchen!

We had a bespoke kitchen to our exact design and it was not much more expensive than the quotes from B & Q or Wickes to fit it.

The difference in quality was very noticable and we did splash out on granite worktops but you may be pleasantly surprised if you use a specialist.

If you are prepared to take the old kitchen out yourself you can save a bit as the labour decreases.

there are some good sales on at the moment. I suggest you try those sales rather than take a risk on a company with bad press.

  • After doing a year of research, I can confirm that:

    B&Q
    Homebase
    Wikes
    MFI

Will always have a 'sale' on... extra 10% days etc.

After collecting catalogues for a year the prices never change... its the same old thing really.. there is never a sale.

As for FRANCE, I have also heard this about barthrooms....

come on someone must have the answer...

if no I will have to post on https://www.moneysavingexpert.FR
