Am I using too much gas?

Hi all

I have a four bed house, its a fairly new build (circa 5 years old) so its pretty up to date with heating insulation. Roof's lagged, thermablocks etc. In fact its quite a warm house and easy to keep warm too.

I'm currently paying £63 a month in gas which I've no idea if thats good/bad. There's three of us in the house and we all have a shower every day and I work from home so in the winter the heating's on during the day too.

Is that fairly atypical or am I going wrong somewhere? Just seems a lot to me. My electric bill is also pretty high (£74 a month) but given my job I do run computers for long hours so thats where i think its going.

Thanks

The first thing is that the DD is no indication of how much Gas or elecy you are using. It is the ultility companies estimate of a payment that will cover your usage. If you use less they give you a refund if you use more then you get charged for it.

What you need to do is find a bill with an actual reading for that date preferably before the winter then give us the uptodate meter readings (make sure to note if the gas meter says impeial or meters cubed) and then your useage over that period can be worked out.

We use 31000kwh a year gas and pay about £75 a month. Electricity about 5000kwh a year £45 a month.

Six of us with someone home all day using gas for heating, hot water and cooking.

We are currently averaging 18200kWh of gas a year and 6870kWh of electric and paying a dual fuel bill of £140/month.

Thats three people using gas for central heating and electric for everything else.
