Eon changed DD without telling me!

HI,
I would like to say I have the exact opposite problem - we are currently with NPower, we changed just when the prices went up. My OH signed up for Npower with one of those door knockers and she kept saying "you will pay less with us, you will pay less with us." And put the DD less then we had with the old company by £40. I tried to explain to her that the old DD was based on old prices, since the prices went up by a lot etc etc etc and we are starting in the winter, but she said "no, no, don't worry"
Well guess what - we are in debt by £300!! Now they are more expensive and I have switched and have to find that £300. I calculated it and if she just left the DD as it was it would have been covered on average.
Why do they calculate the initial DD on "what they think" and don't actually they your old bill and have a look at the usage?0 -
I think your problem started with:My OH signed up for Npower with one of those door knockers...
I've had them at my door with their aggressive selling attitude, basically telling blatant lies so they can get their commission.
There's no reason to ever buy ANYTHING at the door; this technique is used to pressure customers face-to-face into accepting expensive tariffs, which unfortunately your OH fell for.0 -
Exactly why i refuse to use DD - just think yourself lucky you actually got a notification and taht they didn't just take teh money and leave you short, or even worse incur charges and knock on effects on other bills , b******s but its obviusly the best way to pay (for them) - and the door knocker, dont sign up until you have checked it - i tried to verify what i was told and the guy disapeared !:mad:0

Just had the same letter today upping the DD from £97 to £124. I phoned them and said that as my dd of £107 had built up an excess of £400 over the winter months and when the cost of electricity/gas was higher, why were they putting it up to £124. Sorry, we made a mistake, we'll put it back down. Yeh right.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

HI,
Why do they calculate the initial DD on "what they think" and don't actually they your old bill and have a look at the usage?
That question can be easily answered with one word - 'Commission'
They would set the DD to £1 a month if that is what it took to get you to sign.
IMO as long as you understand the system, paying by DD is by far and away the cheapest and easiest method of paying for your utilities.
However that does entail reading(and understanding) your bills and the ability to understand that a, say, £30 monthly DD is unlikely to cover annual fuel costs!!0 -
I pay by DD. I read my meter every month and I keep an eye on my quarterly bills. If I can see I`m not paying enough I increase my DD, If I think I`m paying too much I reduce it. Just had my yearly review from Eon and they have reduced my DD from £95 to £77. That`s fine by me but if it`s not enough to pay the large winter bills then I`ll just increase it. I don`t want to use what I can`t afford to pay for and I`m not paying more than I should.0

Npower are in hot water over this but as the regulatory body of the energy companies are about as useful as a not very useful thing having a not very useful day they kepp getting away with it!! The door step selling by Npower should be investigated as a criminal matter never mind as a civil matter, it is nothing less than deception!!Information provided is general and not specific to an individuals position. For more specific advice an agency such as National Debtline, Citizens Advice Bureau, CCCS or Payplan should be contacted.

Oh no! Trouble with NPower?! And there's me thinking I had enough issues with EON
My sympathies with you
I am currently trying to sort out repayment with NPower but they have since passed the outstanding balance to a debt collector whom has ignored every letter and email and phone call I have made to them and yet still insist they will be taking me to court...
Oh what fun0
