Tiscali contract change but don't tell anyone

I'm sure everyone knows but I was SHOCKED to discover that Tiscali without telling me had changed my phone contact 12 months ago. All calls to landlines used to be free no matter how long you spoke. In May 2008 they changed this so that it was only for 60 minutes, requiring you to hang up and call again for any extra time. I was told when I spoke to the Billing dept. that they hadn't informed me but had put it on the web site. I was furious and they did agree to credit me any monies that I had been charged over the 12 month period.
Is it even legal to change the contract in such a way and not inform us?
In any case at least I will be getting my money back, but I wonder how many other people are as ignorant as I was of the fact they are being quietly fleeced?

Yes. Have you READ your Tiscali contract? Look carefully for any mention of unlimited calling, or indeed any tariff information.
There isnl't any. Your contract is for SERVICE, and the tariffs you agree to are not explicitly mentioned because they are expected to change. Your issue of complaint would be their reliance on reading their T&Cs and any change via the website alone - with such a significant change, it is allowed per your contract BUT you must be told, and their lack of sending you notice is a communications breach, not a contract one.
You are not 'being fleeced' all the telcos have a limit on 60 minutes - this is to prevent using phones as long-distance intercoms. They'll also be charging you more for not paying by DD, posting you a bill, and many other services because the big boys do.
In anyevent, Tiscali is no more - and has been sold to Carphone Warehouse, so watch for even more changes.0 -

That may well be the case now, however when I started with Tiscali, it wasn't the case. It used to be that I could talk for as long as I liked. As far as I'm concerned to change this and not be required to even tell the customers is criminal and is a way to fleece it's customers.0 -
