You dont need to worry about Vista, mind you it will be replaced soon in around 3-4 months with Windows 7 which appears to be much better, they shoudl be a upgrade path for you later, I seem to recall that could be free, although you might be wise asking Dell
I would have thought vista would be setup as administrator straight away I know my Dell laptop was it had Vista business on it, I now use windows 7 7100 on it much better0 -
On first boot it will ask you for a username and password, this account is automaticly given admin status.
You dont have to enter your password to install anything on this acount, it will jsut give you a yes/no confirmation box.
further user accounts are setup in the control pannel, just search for user accounts in the windows help system and it will guide your through the process.0 -
As suggested above. As it is a new PC you will receive lots of prompts as you first start it to run through and setup any accounts you wish. (Usually yourself and any other family etc etc).
The first account you create will be a standard user, not an administrator, but it will have elevated privaledges. I.E - When you try and do something "serious" the screen will go into Secure Desktop mode and a box will come up which is UAC (User account control) asking you to click "OK" if you wish to go ahead - like a little warning feature.
There is only one administrator account in Vista by default, the only diference being it runs as a full administrator with UAC turned off (no silly prompts)
If you are on a current XP, Vista machine, I would suggest looking into the MS Easy Transfer Tool:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2B6F1631-973A-45C7-A4EC-4928FA173266&displaylang=en
This can be run on your current PC and it will save all your accounts/my documents/settings/etc on a USB disk or media of prefferred choice. You can then run the same software on your new PC and it will import all settings as on your old PC to the new one.
