we are selling our 2.0LGTI 3dr VW Golf privately. It is in excellent condition, mileage 37,000 and based on Parkers is worth £8,635 based on 20,000 miles
We have it advertised for £8,750 OVNO. Yesterday a couple came to view and the guy offered £8,000 based upon Glasses valuation. We did not accept the offer.
We then went online to Glasses and paid the £2.95 for the online valuation report. It said the trade in -ecellent price was about £1,000 less than Parkers -good valuation.
I thought Glasses is for motor dealers: the prices they would offer for trade in, wheras Parkers is the guide for values in private sales.
Please can anyone confirm whether we should base our for sale on Parkers or Glasses.
I now realise we have overpriced, but i dont think £8,000 is right, maybe £8,300-£8,400?
thanks

The glasses guide is the motor trade bible. However, my experience is Parkers is way too optimistic in its values. Maybe you should have a value between the Glasses good trade price and the private price listed in Parkers.0

Parkers and Glass's purely provide guide prices. In my experience, traders tend to offer under Glass's. Parkers rarely gets near Glass's, but that doesn't mean that you've over priced it.
Check similar models on Auto Trader to see if your asking price is way out. That's the best advice I can give. Some people will seriously try their luck on prices, but if your cars nicely prepped and presented, you're in a better position.
The couple wouldn't have even viewed it if they honestly believed it was seriously overpriced. Just a thought.0 -
I tend to find Parkers is slightly overpriced. Another site for valuations is https://www.wisebuyers.co.uk, although im unsure as to where they get there information from.0
