old car

I hope this is the right place to post and would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. I have a 1984 Maestro that has been on blocks in a garage for some years. Are there places that would buy the car for parts or whatever, or would I have to call a scrap merchant to just take it away? Thanks.

Someone would be happy to buy the car for parts. Its amazing what all the parts added up can be worth. Try Ebay. You could sell part by part (worth more) or sell the whole lot. You could ring a few scrap yards, may get £50 or so.

I don't recommend davids option of parts unless you have the means yo get rid of the carcass after it has been stripped. I think the best way of looking at it is I have piece of junk anything I can get for it is a bonus.

Just as an example I had my old W124 Merecedes which I popped on EBay a month ago, it went within 24 hours for £250. Which is a lot more than I was expecting. Supposedly off to start a new life in Nigeria. The guy who bought from me was a very nice Nigerian gentleman who arrived paid me cash and sent his truck round to collect a few hours later. He apparently travels quite widely.

Could offer it to a fire station for the guys to practice roof removal etc. Or maybe donate it to a college for budding mechanics to tinker about with...

You can break a car for parts and then phone one of the free scrap collection places to take the shell away.
    Happy chappy

    "fun" ??!!!

are you being serious?! they were absolutely horrible cars, and i speak with bitter experience! they represented the !!!! end of the swan song of british leyland. ghastly vehicles.. the 1.6 engine in the maestro dated back to the austins of the 1950s.. the engine hardly changed since then.. "solid" is about the only commendable feature of the maestro.. and that stodgyness was evidenced through the car's appalling fuel efficiency.. about 20mpg, iirc.

thanks everyone, I have been seeing ads tied to posts offering money for old cars where I am living but the car is actually miles away. Looks like internet trawling .......again!
