Broken Sink, can I claim for the suite

Hi all,
Our daughter knocked over a glass and it fell into the bathroom sink and knocked a huge lump out of it (the sink that is). So it needs to be replaced! We phoned the insurance company and they said that they will cover the repair under the accidental cover. They will however only cover the sink and not the whole bathroom suite. The sink is part of a matching bathroom suite and I doubt that I will be able to find a matching replacement, so I suspect that I will have to change the whole suite.
Is the insurance right to only cover the cost of replacing the sink, or should they pay for the suite or for a portion of the cost of a whole suite.
Many Thanks
Jim

That is what my insurers said to me. Hiscox so not a cheap policy. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.0

Similar thing happened to us last year. Dropped a shampoo bottle in the shower cubicle & cracked the shower tray. Insurance would only cover the cost of the tray & not the rest of the suite. Problem is, the suite is a pale peach colour which has since been discontinued. They would only replace the tray with a white one so now we have a white shower & the rest of the suite is peach as we couldn't afford to replace the rest ourselves.0

The FOS suggests that Insurers should pay 50% of the costs of replacing the undamaged but matching items in the suite. You should raise this with your Insurers.

Your policy will, most likely, exclude cover for matching sets and suits.0

Yes, but the FOS does not necessarily agree that this is fair and reasonable and hence suggests 50% of the costs of replacement of the undamaged matching items. ( if the damaged item cannot be replaced with an identical match)
Insurers know this is ( or should know this) and yet fail to inform policyholders.
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/ombudsman-news/10/oct-houshold-disasters.htmFor many years, we have awarded compensation to customers who have referred complaints to us about ‘loss of match’ where, for example, one part of a three-piece suite has been damaged and it has not been possible to obtain an exact replacement for the damaged item. Our typical award is 50% of the cost of replacing the undamaged items. We have applied this approach to buildings insurance as well as to contents insurance. 0 -
