Hello everyone
I like to think of myself as a bit of a whizz when it comes to cakes, biscuits, etc, but I'm completely clueless about lard. It seems to appear in loads of recipes, particularly in older books, and I've no idea why it's there or whether it's really needed. I always substitute Stork, as to be honest, I find the idea of putting an animal product in a sweet dish a bit weird (I'm not veggie though).
Can anyone convert me to to white stuff? Or does marge do the job just as well?
(As an aside, I've just had a weird flashback to my secondary school days when everyone wrote 'Eat Lard' on their pencil cases...what was that all about?)0 -

I've discovered lard too. Actually, I'm manufacturing it around my middle. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

It is the same with chips made from Beef Dripping. We do not have them often but you can not compare them with the ones made with oil.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
