Many years ago when we had an open fire, my mum used old lard on the fire0
-
Actually - I think lard is lower in calories than butter (if only slightly)
I make my mince pie pastry with lard - it makes them so light  Anyway - I'm with some of the others with regards to hydrogenated veg oils - don't use them and don't buy margarine.0 -
So hydrogenated vegtable oils in margarine are really evil and I am in fact being healthier by using butter? Fantastic! Marge tastes gross.0
-
Old-fashioned fish and chips deep fried in lard :drool:0

it never did any of my grandparents any harm and they are all a good age,its all the other c**p that they put in food these days that causes problems there is more obese people these days than there was when my nan was younger a bit of lard never hurt them0
-
The other thing our grandparents' generation did that we don't so much was to get a lot more exercise.Exercise used to be an inbuilt part of life, now it's something we choose to do.
I'm sure if someone imposed rationing on me and took away my car I'd lose weight and get fit no problem!
I'm not suggesting rationing is desirable or that people who lived through it enjoyed it,but I'm sure it would do me no end of good0 -
My Nan always used to have clotted cream on her table, with all meals. Personally, i prefer it with a pud, but there you go!!!! She will only use lard for her roasties and pastry!!!
Im with most posters as well, i always use butter, although i do sometimes use stork margarine in some baking, but have been thinking about stopping that, due to the HVfs!!!!0 -
a banned substance
Sorry that just made me :rotfl:0 -

I didnt think stork (in the tub) didn't have any HVF's in it. But the one in the wrapper does. am i wrong? i hope not cos i've just bought a big tub of it...Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0 -
They'll be listed on the ingredients list on the tub0
