Hi all I'm currently with More Than and i'm due to renew my insurance within the next week. The problem is i'm not sure if you report a chipped windscreen as a claim?? i didn't think it affected my no claims as i'm fully comp??

I've had my renewal from More Than which has 3 claims for past year on!!.I've had little chip's repaired on my fiesta (seperate incidents) from when the roads round where i live where redone. On both occasions it involved speeding motorist that have sprayed up grit!!.Both times i went to a local Auto Glass down at my local supermarket and had it sorted. The other claim was when I was in a accident in April This year, which wasn't my fault & which the other party has accepted liability for.

I've noticed on price comparison sites that if i add the 3 claims i can no longer protect my no claims bonus which stands at 5 years!!

Do small chip repairs count as a claim??

Windscreen claims sould not be classified as a claim but any other type of claim whether it was your fault or not is still a claim!

I would call your insurers and ask them what the 3 claims are and then argue the point for the windscreen claims.

    Sorry can't be more help!

A windscreen repair is a claim and needs to be declared as one.

A windscreen repair does not normally affect your NCB. I would not class a windscreen repair as a claim glider3560.

I don't know if chip repairs have to be declared but I know fully replacing a screen has to be declared but isn't counted against the policy.

What I would do is call an insurance company for a quote and when they ask about accidents, claims and losses in the last X years just tell them you definately have had one claim but aren't sure about the chip repairs. They will then tell you if the chip repairs count as a claim or not.

Edited to add~ We have 2 full windscreen replacement claims on our policy and yes, they are counted as claims. They don't affect your NCB though.
Not sure if repairs are classed as the same though.

Ring them and ask, they will not bite after all they NEED your business!

I know that when I was with Direct Line a couple of years ago and they showed a claim on my insurance, I rang the helpline and they removed it as a claim when they checked and confirmed that it was a windscreen repair!

Irrespective of whether or not your NCB is affected, a windscreen repair is a claim and does need to be reported as such.

Thanks for posting the result. I knew that a windscreen replacement counted as a claim but had no idea about just a repair but now I do!
