Incapacity Benefit changes - very worried

My husband is having a real anxiety attack worrying himself silly about the benefits changes in regards to Incapacity Benefit :(.

At the moment he receives the long term rate, plus DLA, as he has degenerative Arthritis of all the major joints, including significant changes in his spine (e.g curvature + bony growths and fused vertebrae).

He worked for more than 35 years prior to this illness which finally got the better of him a few years ago and is causing increasing pain year by year. He had a medical assessment in 2007 and was awarded I.B, he was already getting DLA (we were unaware of I.B before that!).

He recently found out about the change over to EASA and is worrying himself sick over all this. Aswell as the physical problems he suffers with Clinical Depression and has been diagnosed in the past as having Obssessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. I'm very worried about him right now.

Can anyone advise me please on the what the procedure will be when the change over occurs for people already on long term I.B?. Is it likely that he will have to be put through work focused interviews?. He's 58 years old and is in constant, continual pain. He has to take painkillers 4-hourly, 24/7.

He says if he is 'hassled' he will simply give up his I.B. If he did that i assume i wouldn't get more Income Support (i currently get around £26 p.w to top-up my Carer's Allowance) if he chooses to give up the I.B?.

I'm worried for him, and also for us as a family, i have to stretch the budget as things are!.

Any help would be greatly appreciated x

You're grounds for receiving IS are that you are a carer. Whether your husband does or does not receive IB/ESA will not change that

I think its too early to say what is going to happen. ESA's launch hasnt been without problems. I personally think they should hold off for a few years before trying to migrate people over.

no but i thought my income support was calculated on joint 'income' so if my husband didn't get I.B our 'income' would be less, as it's a means tested benefit

Your income lowering won;t adversely affect your IS

sorry i'm not explaining it well :p
i wanted to know if i might get more I.S if my husband no longer got Incapacity Benefit, otherwise we're going to be £80 (can't remember how much he gets exactly) a week worse off
