it was found by another employer a week after the incident....the pouch box is supposed to be checked every day,if it was checked the bundle would have been found the next day,but the boy who does that area doesnt use the pouch box to store his mail he uses his car:mad:my husband was doing that area on overtime and had only done the area once before.he got different areas everyday.0

What has happened to the other postie. Surely he is guilty as well by him not checking the box.0

not really if they are not using the pouch box
on my day off the pouch boxes are used, when i work i work from a van so have no use for pouch boxes
OP,any union input on this?
willful delay is a very hard one to defend0 -
A grievance is not relevant, he needs to follow the appeals procedure.
OP, do you have a copy of the disciplinary policy? Does this stipulate this situation as gross dismissal (it does not have to be, but it would be more clear cut if it was)?
In the absence of other factors, it does seem extreme to be dismissed for such an offence. However, it is difficult to give more definitive advice without being familiar with RM procedures.

wilful delay is treated as gross mosconduct0 -
I think that the way the economy is at the moment - any excuse to get rid of any long service employees they will.
My hubby was made redundant but before the redundancies the Company dismissed as many as possible thro' negligence. This was sometimes for very minor offences and these were not subject to appeal.0 -

Thanks custardy, I did think of you when I saw this thread!
It is good to get an internal perspective on issues like this, as what may seem quite trivial from an outsiders point of view, can be seen as much more serious from the organisation's POV.Gone ... or have I?0 -
If postmen have more than one bag of mail they will be placed in a 'pouch box' by a driver then the delivery postman will pick it up on his way around his delivery.
The OP is saying because the other postman goes out in his car,he does not need to use the pouch box as he puts his extra bag of mail in his car which i am sure is against post office rules.Usually the OP's husband would have been given a suspended dismissal warning rather than the sack.Maybe the true facts are not known.0 -
OP please get on to your CWU union rep and appeal this decision. Royal Mail's Conduct Code allows for genuine mistakes/human error. I cant see how your Husband has been dismissed for this unless there was intent involved and it was a first time offence.
Royal Mail have an incredibly poor record with dismissal's and many get overturned. I worked for Royal Mail for 2 years.
Please post this up on www.royalmailchat.co.uk where you will get more help. But please get onto the CWU and Appeal straight away...Thats the first thing!0 -

A grievance letter is very relevant. ACAS will not intervene unless he has written a grievance letter. He also can not apply to an Employment Tribunal unless he has written a grievance letter. If he has not applied to an ET within 3 months of his dismissal date he will be out of time.0 -

Actually at our delivery office royal mail are more than happy for posties to use their own car as long as it has proper business insurance and has been checked by a manager0
