WARNING*Micro Direct*WARNING

Hi,
I sent off for a new motherboard and processor from https://www.microdirect.co.uk
The items turned up very quickly but when i took them to a local computer shop he told me there was a problem with one of them. I was told to return the items for re-testing by MD and that they would be in touch in 3 days. They never got in touch and I have spent hours upon hours being kept on hold on their Technical support/customer care, lines. I must have spent a fortune and I was kept on hold for nearly four hours. I eventually got through to a manager who said the items hadn't been tested yet ( 8 days later ) three times they said they would get back to me and didn't. Eventually I was told that they could see no problem with the items so I was to be charged £11.34 and also for postage. I can accept this but who is to say there was nothing wrong with the items? Anyway the reason I went to MD in the first place was to save £40 from buying them in the shops.Eventaully after nearly two weeks of waiting a package arrived but guess what ! No processor, they say it was in the package so tough!!! I have had to pay out for another one..obviously not with them.
I would recomend to anyone thinking about buying new computer items to give this company a wide berth, buy it from a local shop and that way you can just take it back.

Anyone with problems with MD I have the Managing Directors name & direct phone numbers to two Customer Service Managers.

I used to deal with M.D. on a daily basis - returns were indeed a nightmare. We had an account manager & often resorted to mild blackmail to try to get things done (holding back orders).

We were blamed for damaging items that were D.O.A. (dead on arrival) and refused replacements.

Items that did eventually get replaced were sometimes lesser/older models. Many battles occured both ins tore and over the phone.

We spent several thousand pounds with them every month. Our typical orders included £300 Xeon Processors, £450 motherboards, £140 power supplies.... you get the picture. Yet they still didn't give a monkeys about C.S.

I established other suppliers (some hundreds of miles away) who provided a better after sales service and gradually moved away from dealing with M.D. - depsite the fact they were literally around the corner from us!

There were two things we USED Micro Direct for. (1) Quick local jobs and (2) Bouncing their prices at other suppliers to improve discounts.

    Buyer beware!
  • Just going to leap to their defence and say that I've never had any problems with MD. I've ordered a load of stuff from them over a number of years, as have many poeple I know who have also not had any problems. i've also returned faulty kit, which was replaced immediately once they confirmed it was at fault, I didnt even have a receipt for it!

I have also had problems with a return and Microdirect.

I had to send a recorded delivery letter to them threatening court action to get a response, then they only made a partial refund until I gave them a 7 day dead line to make a full refund.

Bookmark your local trading standards home page and https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/csmco2/index.jsp if you decide to buy from this company, you may need it if you want a refund.

I can only concur with what has been said here. I was sent a much cheaper incorrect model of an item I had ordered, and their customer support (laugh) made me feel like it was my fault! They begrudgingly agreed to cover the cost of sending it back.

Three weeks later I had heard nothing and began the round of calls to their 0870 number - but gave up in the end as had cost me a small fortune without getting through.

Finally I received a credit note through the post - but no sign of the £8 for returns postage to be refunded - nor the correct item which I would have preferred :( I am now unsure whether to go ahead and order it somewhere else just in case it suddenly turns up from these sharks!!

Seriously folks this company should not be in business and if you check them out on Google (or PriceRunner), everywhere they are reviewed people slate them with the same issues!!

Stick with eBuyer - they have it covered.

    SayNoTo0870.com gives the geographical alternative:

Interesting that you slate Microdirect and refeer to sources to back your argument, yet had you cared to check the same sources you will know that Ebuyer are as bad if not worse than Microdirect.

I wouldnt shop at both retailors now, not that I have had much experince with Microdirect although I have heard they are bad they are.

I'd like to add my voice to the "poor service from Microdirect" chorus congregating here.

I understand that the prices from MicroDirect and Ebuyer are a lot lower than their competitors, but I've personally never had any trouble from Ebuyer, and the money I've saved across the 20 or so orders I've had through them have made them a very safe bet in my opinion.
