Hi Guys
Be gentle with me as I'm new to all of this....
I PM'd Heinz to ask the following but can find no evidence of it being sent so am posting here in case anyone knows the answer....
I've signed up with 18185 and wanted to buy an Orchid V4 but when I spoke to them they said that the V4 is no longer available and was being replaced by the "callsaver 1" which doesn't have the ability to set different routing at different times of the day.
I assume that this won't be very helpfull considering that I need to dial different prefixes at different times.
Am I on the right track?
Did I misunderstand what they were saying?
If the new unit won't be any good is there another one that is?
Thanks in advance for replies.

Welcome to the MSE forums aldouk.

We were aware that supplies of the V4 were running out and that Orchid could not afford to source a new batch - because they'd have to negotiate with a Chinese firm to produce prototypes etc. and then place an order for a minimum of 10,000 units - no small order in these days of recession.

There's no mention of the Callsaver 1 on their website (http://www.orchid-telecom.com/) and, unless they mean the V2 (http://www.orchid-telecom.com/V2UG.pdf), I have no knowledge of it. You're right though, without day/time of day programmability the effectiveness would be severely reduced.

When Orchid had to withdraw the server via which many owners programmed their V4s a few months back, I spent a while Googling trying to locate a similar, programmable, device. I failed and cannot suggest any alternative.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I don't normally but both of us were happy to put it on the thread and there's nothing in there that we wouldn't say anyway (most of it was already there)

    Thanks for the concern:D

I am not sure you should be posting private Emails in an open forum.

If it was me I would edit them out.

There may be nothing in them that is private but the posting of them is not good etiquette.

    Same goes for private messages.
