why is costa brava so expensive?

I'm looking for somewhere for august and even apartments are over £1000 for a week. Has anyone found a website with good prices for good accommodation? I've looked at all the usual suspects and I'm all googled out. thanks

  • You could try the asda and aldi travel websites, alpha rooms or tripadvisor can search for availability, or you could build your own package by going to holidaylettings.co.uk finding an apartment or villa and then booking a cheap flight through Ryanair which tend to have cheapie flights to Gerona and Reus. Maybe that will help get you started.

I think it is because it has a shorter season than other areas of Spain and so cashes in with higher prices over a shorter time frame.

i think part of the problem is I want to stay in northern costa brava near palafrugell and a lot of the cheaper apartments are nearer the south.

Yes prices are sky high in August.
It seems Spain is going the same way as prices in the uk. That is twice to three times the price in the school holidays ( late July and all August) as at other times.

It used to be less inflated in August - but not anymore.

Searching for a private apartment is your best bet.
  • We got a good half board deal last summer with alpharooms. Going to Ibiza this year and best price for half board was Thompsons

I was looking ar Begur in August but just couldn't justify the price, even though the hotels looked amazing. I have ended up finding some pretty reasonable deals on travelrepublic for tossa de mar, which looks a lot nicer than other areas like lloret de mar.

what about a mobile home, there are sites near palafrugell and I think they may be quite reasonable priced, loads of activities aswell if you have any kids.

I have found that booking with local agents is cheaper than camping at nearby sites. Try searching for local rentals around the Palafrugell area - eg finques port calella we've used them many times without any problems. Beautiful area, popular with the Barcelona crowd - which pushes the prices up!
