Can cracked guttering be repaired?

We had some roofing work done recently, and it appears the roofers have damaged (possibly cracked), the guttering on the front of the house.

Whenever it rains one area of the guttering has a constant stream of water coming from around 5 or 6 places. During heavy rainfall the water resembles a water feature at the front of the property!

We have called the roofing company who sent someone round about 2 weeks ago to 'repair' the guttering. We were on our way out at the time to take the cat to the vets, so we couldn't stay to see what repairs were done as we were already late for our appointment. However, we just think he tried to fill in the cracks with mastic as he had a tube of the stuff in his hand. This repair has had no effect as with todays rainfall the situation is the same if not worse. I contacted the company again last week and they said they would send someone round again, but I'm wondering if cracked guttering can even be repaired or is a replacement in order? If a replacement is done can just the one section be replaced or would the whole run at the front of the property need to be replaced?

The guttering was installed by the previous owners of the house in December 2006 (we have the guarantee for the work), so its not as if the guttering is old, which is the excuse the roofing company tried to use when I first phoned up.

Any ideas on the best way forward appreciated.

Thanks

If the guttering is just standard (ie black or white half round plastic) then TBH I think the roofing company are taking the P trying to repair it, it is so cheap to replace. I have just checked on B and Q website and a pack of 6x3M lengths(18M!) is only £30, so I would guess you can buy a length for less than a tenner. The roofers must have spent more than that for the mastic and an hours labour for the guy to come round (twice!)

Just point this out to them and demand that they replace the damaged section.

We did a temporary repair to one of ours with some black carpet tape, about 5 years ago.

You didn't say what the guttering is made of. If it's plastic then the best cure is replacing that length, assuming they've cracked it. It could also be that the joints have not been aligned properly, or the whole length is not properly mounted on the brackets.
Either way it is down to the roofers to fix it properly.
