Avoid driving in NYC - get a hotel in New Jersey or on Long Island and get the train/bus into the city

ooh, i totally disagree with that. The last trains back are normally before midnight, so you're screwed if you want to see any of the NYC nightlife, or even see a show, as some of the late shows, don't finish til late.

Hey people - can anyone recommend the best way to get hold of a couple of red sox tickets for 24 July please? And also which are the best seats, at a reasonable price. Thanks.

I wasn't nasty, i asked a question, and the OP was asking more specifically about New England, and Boston, and New York, and visiting them and your question was regarding Baseball.

IMO, it's like asking a question about sport, on a thread about knitting...

and the GO YANKEES! wasn't nasty, it was just showing my alliance to an alternative MLB team.

Funny we also did the same in the other direction for our honeymoon.
NYC > Newport > Cape Cod > Boston

Personally I found Cape Cod a bit of a disappointment, much preferred Newport which is just a bit further west. Cape Cod was dead in May, but I get the impression it will be a nightmare in high season. Roads are just lined with motels. Provincetown was nice though.

The Almondy Inn in Newport was perfect. Opposite the Marina, beautiful old house and friendly hosts with the best breakfast you'll ever get.

We didn't have a car in NYC, picked one up in Manhattan and drove out- wasn't too bad once you get your head around the one way system, but parking will be difficult/expensive. I definately wouldn't stay anywhere but the centre- you need to experience all of NY, getting on a train out to Jersey will be an anti climax to your night. Casablanca hotel was great- perfect spot just off Times Square, lovely hotel and not ridiculous money like much of NY.
