Anyone have one of these and can offer advice on attaching the unit via the supplied SCM utility, its a 300Gb drive and shows as 0Gb free and no drives available so no attachment is possible. During a SCM software reinstall the drive is visible together with the correct share name, entering the password, it just disappears with no drives available message.

It seems the software supplied is a bit of a pain, scroll down halfway to Software and Features http://ixbtlabs.com/articles2/storage/netgear-sc101.html as it may help you out.0

It certainly used to be, but its a lot better nowIt seems the software supplied is a bit of a pain
Is this a new box, if not then worth upgrading to the latest f/w & software via netgear site, but since it usually offers to do that whenever you run the storage central manager anyway , you've probably already done that.
IDE or later SATA version ? : I have IDE one, I very vaguely remember it being a bit picky about the drive or drive manufacturer - might be wrong
There used to be a very good forum on the netgear site about the unit in the early days with lots of fixes and workarounds, but the unit did have a very bad rep at that time and Netgear took all that info down, some has since re appeared (when they finally had a big push on fixing the f/w) but by no means all
I don't use it with a password myself AFAIK
Try a hardware reset - hold reset button in > 8 seconds and start again from scratch0
