Hi
I understand that a tenant must protect a tenants deposit no more than 14 days after a new AST begins.
Does anyone know if it is illegal to take a deposit from a tenant if its more than 14 days before the beginning of AST?.
Thanks in advance

(I think you meant Landlord/Agent must protect...)
Its not illegal, afaik.
You may even WANT to pay the deposit early as a way of securing the property, if it is desirable/popular, and/or so that you can end the lease on your old place in confidence...
If it purely for the Landlords/Agents benefit, too far in advance might be cheeky, but no, not illegal.0 -

Thanks CF.
I want to transfer my tenants deposit from my letting agent TDS to my DPS scheme. He is staying in the house but we are not using the agents services (if you can call it that) again.
We're trying to be efficient and do most of our work in advance.
