I won £250 Pure Avanti Flow Internet Radio......and then didn't!

I came back from holiday a couple of weeks ago to find an answer phone message to say I was one of the 10 winners of a competition to win a Pure Avanti Flow Internet Radio. I had entered the competition online on a well known Hifi magazine's website.

I called the person who left the message and they then told me they couldn't find my details on their system. Anyway after having to chase them due to non-returned phone calls they admitted there had been a problem. It seems that the reason I had been drawn as a winner was because they already had the 10 winners but one hadn't claimed so they disqualified them - hence me then being drawn as the replacement winner.

The same day that they called me to advise me of my win, the disqualifed entrant called them to say that he had just found his winning e-mail notification in his spam filter.

They decided to re-instate the original winner and therefore had the problem that they had 10 Radios and now 11 winners. I was told that they would try and get another Radio but that if they couldn't then I would be offered something similar by another manufacturer.

I had a call a couple of days ago to say that they have been in contact with Roberts Radio and would send me a Roberts Sound 43 digital radio instead.

I have compared the two radios and the Pure radio is a internet and DAB digital radio and the Roberts is only a Dab radio but also has a CD player built in. The Pure's RRP is £249 and the Roberts is £199.

I feel a little dissapointed as I feel that the replacement is inferior to the original prize offered.

However, if I were to complain then they may be generous and offer the Roberts internet radio version of the Pure but it's a 2 year old model now and is not as good and is ugly(!!) and is only worth £179.

Am I just being ungrateful (probably!) or would some of you feel the same? What are the rules for things like this?

I think that's an OK substitution, maybe a bit disappointing, but not worth complaining about.

I would be thrilled with that, I don't see any reason to complain, they have been very kind to sort this out for you and please both you and the nearly disqualified entrant.

think you are lucky anyway as you were not the origional winner and they have gave you something else which i think was nice of them and i would be very happy with that.x

Note the and/or value part. They could have given you a basic DAB radio worth about £50!

I think I would be happy with the prize too. Yes they made a mistake but still honoured your win x

i would be more than happy , especially as you was not one of the original winners , and you was away on ur hols as well , its free , its a radio , and its worth a few hundred pound , personally you sound a bit ungrateful , just remember itsa hobby comping , not a job , and everything is free in the end .

I think you're very lucky and if I was you would be more than happy with the offer, especially as you were not one of the original names to be pulled from the proverbial hat

Oh no! My wife was right! I AM being ungrateful I think I need to go and take a long hard look at myself. I shall graciously accept my prize and be thankful that I was so lucky. Thanks for the honest opinions - much appreciated.
