I want to get a balance transfer to use in setting up a business. How do I transfer to an account where I can use the money month by month to pay expenses? Can I make a transfer to a current account? Or can I find transfer to a credit card which has a cheque book. Help please

Majority of credit cards offer cheques. However, using cheques is usually as expensive as drawing cash from ATM or over a counter - one of the most expensive ways to borrow. Have a read of these Martin's articles:

NEVER use the cheques that come with a credit card 'For your convenience' you'll get stung for loads in charges.

Providers such as Mint, MBNA, A&L, Abbey, & Virgin supply cheques for use at 0% during the introductory period on new cards.

Others, such as LTSB, send special promotion cheques that can be used to transfer balances (or pay yourself ;)) at 0%.

So, rather than say "NEVER use the cheques that come with a credit card", I'd say always read the T&C's that accompany the cheques.

Depends on the cheques. I have Capital One cheques that I use to withdraw an amount up to my total limit with no fee and they get charged at my purchase rate of interest. So if I repay the balance by statement date, I pay no extra at all.

I use these cheques to SBT if you like.

Having said that, every time I have done this lately....within a few days, I have received a new cheque book from them in the post with cheques which are at a different (worse) rate. Needless to say they go straight in the shredder, lol.

Perhaps new applicants would only get the high rate cheques. Might be best to phone to enquire before you apply to whatever company you choose?
