My family and I are traveliing to france on the 3rd-6th May. My passport runs out on the 14th May 2006 and my partners on the 7th May 2006.
I have been told that some countries prefer you to have at least 6 months left on your passport to travel - is this true ??
Is there going to be a problem??
I didn`t wanna have to shell out another £100 for passports on top of the holiday !

I was told that it shouldn't be a problem when I went in december. My sons passport only had 2 months left on it and it was fine. We had a lovely holiday at Disneyland Paris. Hugs hope you have a great time.Barclaycard 3800

I've heard the same and I personaly would not be going with the end dates so close. With France being local you may be ok but I would check with the passport office or the travel/flight agent as you can sometimes you can get refused at this end too.
I'm sure it will be fine, good luck.Regards,
Dave

France is part of the EEC, so there should be no problem. Theoretically you should be able to remain there for as long as you wish. Because you have return tickets anyway, there would be no problem.
Also, note that you can transfer unused whole months on your existing passport, to your new passport. See the extract below:
You can renew a passport up to nine months before it runs out. If you do this we will put a credit on your new passport for the unused time (in whole months) that was left on your old passport the day the new one was issued.0 -
Weve just been to Italy and a member of our party's passport ran out two days after we returned. We were told that so long as the passport was still in date when we left the country it would be okay - also because it was in the EU...0

You will be fine countrys outside the EU often stamp your pasport to say you can stay for upto 6 months thats why they require it to be valid for this period.
Your in the EU so will be fine..0 -
it can vary from place to place...i phoned the passport people and they told me that. If you phone the french embasy they will be able to advise you properly.love you lots like jelly tots

Hi
I emailed the French Embassy, as we're going to Disneyland Paris in August, and son's passport runs out beginning of September, and they said this would be ok and I wouldn't need to renew passport.

Thanks everyone -also emailed the embassy this morning and got the following reply :
Dear Madam,
I wish to inform you that there is no necessary minimum validity on a British passport.
You may therefore travel to France and return to Great-Britain as long as your passport is valid for the entire period of your stay in France.
Yours faithfully,

I work in Calais. The French Police check passports in Dover, when they can be bothered to be there. I have heard of numerous occasions of British nationals refused entry to France because their passport has run out, but never because it's about to run out. Sometimes I think they just fancy being awkward!
If your passport has something like 9 months or less validity left on it, you can now transfer those months to a new passport, and therefore avoid peak times for renewal.
I can't remember the country off hand but I think it is Belarus that has passports with validity to the age of 100! I just wonder how many of its citizens will live past the validity of their passports.0 -
I thought you could travel to another EU country provided you had the proper id .
I cant remember the full list off id's but a passport is only one type of id there are others .0
