I loved my trip to Luxor. A week on a boat and then a week in Luxor (New Winter Palace Hotel) As said earlier the boats are much of a muchness. Be warned... almost eveyone gets food poisoning!! Try and only eat food that is freshly prepared and piping hot. The New Winter Palace hotel in Luxor had a little restaurant at the front which did lots of things with chips.. Really pleb but you couldnt catch anything nasty from them. I booked with Thompsons.

During the first week on the boat we sought out people staying in Luxor for the second week and six of us got together which was really useful for buying trips etc.
Abu simbal is a must and we flew to Cairo for a day trip (amazing what you can do in a day) to see King Tut's treasures in the Cairo Museum and to see the Pyramids and Sphinx and ride a camel.

The Egyptian people are lovely but exceptionally poor can be very insistant in trying to screw extra Baksheesh (tip) out of you. Make sure that when you negotiate a price for anything always specify Egyptian Pounds. If you dont they will insist when the paying comes that they thought that you were talking pounds sterling. Having said that if you stand your ground and specify whether or not a price includes baksheesh before you take the ride/service they get the message and dont try it on.

It sounds like stomach ache and constant harrassment but in fact it's a magical place to visit.
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!

    Thanks to everyone for suggestions.
I was hoping to go second half of April before it gets too hot but could go May.
Problem is I don't want to pay much more than £400 tops.
Never thought about going to Luxor and booking direct.
I'll just keep checking the offers using the advice given.
