Veg oli as fuel

Whats the best car to buy to run on veg oil?

I would be very grateful if someone who really knows what they are talking about could share their thoughts.

An old merc, volvo or toyota hilux are ones I've heard as being successful (guy at work put it into his hilux straight from the supermarket before it went to £1.15 a litre).
Common Rail Diesels shouldnt be used ( Ford TDCI, Chrysler CRD to name but 2).
Heres a couple of forums, two for making biodiesel and the other for using veg oil.

I did intend to do more research, but the two cars I've listed as NOT compatible are the ones I've got so I lost interest.
Best of luck with it, if your looking for fresh veg oil, I believe catering 20 litre bottles can be had for £14-£16.
As far as waste veg oil goes, if you want to go down that route, try a local back street cafe or local pub thats perhaps not been asked for their oil goes.
  • Thanks very much, I have a source of oil. Just need to filter it.

What about a small deisel car, like a Pug 106 or something?
  • ive run it on a 1.5 106

    perfect!

Do some some research around the bosch or lucas pumps, one is good one is bad

The Rover L series engine has been run very sucessfully on veggy oil, although most people I know are using a 50/50 mix. In winter you will find that you need to use a mix as the veggy oil will make the engine hard to start from cold, but in the summer you should be fine on 100% veggy.

The 106 won't run long on veg oil. It has a lucas fuel pump.
The only reliable option is the old Bosch pump, as it has an oil feed from the engine. The Lucas type relies on the fuel, and veg oil is too thick to lubricate properly, so leads to excessive wear, lack of pumping, and occasional seizing, with danger of stripping the cam belt.

I spoke to a guy on one of the previously posted forums about the rover 825 diesel. He'd converted 2 so that they ran on WVO without the need for mixing (heated fuel filter to get started rings a bell). He MAY have had a 20 litre container of regular diesel plumbed in somewhere, but I cant remember for sure.
