 Can anyone help???? Bought a car from a dealer last year with cash, had an HPI check on it which came back showing Finance Outstanding from a previous owner, got in touch with Finance Company which said debt had been cleared and they would update system. Just been today to try and trade my car in for a new car and it still shows as finance owing so cannot trade it in. Finance Company said they wanted to know where the car was as they had now took the outstanding amount to Legal proceedings. Where do I stand now!!!!!!!

If you bought it from a dealer then it's the dealers problem, not yours.
If you bought it private then i'd go bury it some where in a field, perhaps...0 -

Did you get it in writing that the finance had been settled or just verbally over the phone?War does not decide who is right, It decides who is left.0 -
Unfortunatley just took their word for it over the phone, checked if dealer had done an Hpi check at the time which they had even they had been told the same information by the finance company.0

It's the dealers problem then. They should have made sure it was clear before offering the car for sale.0

I may be talking garbage but i would have also thought that the dealer would have checked wether there was any outstanding finance before taking the car on to sell?
If you get any hassle from the finance company then i would just point them in the direction of the dealer.War does not decide who is right, It decides who is left.0 -
Think you may be stuffed. Its really your problem as they will come and repo the car from you. They wont go after the dealer that sold it to you.
You will then be left with no car and having to sue the dealer for your losses.0 -
Or go to the dealer before any of this happens...?0

please disregard the above statement. If you bought the car from a dealer you are not responsible. also if you bought the car privately then you are also ok as long as you can show you are innocent. ie car advertised, you did not know the seller and was unaware of any finance.
the finance co may ask you to complete a buyers quest with details of when/where.
send the finance co a letter asking for hpi to be removed and send as signed for letter0
